During an on-site visit to Chile, carried out from January 25 to 31, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights observed the general situation in the country and found various human rights violations in the context of social protest.
In addition to meeting with government authorities, the IACHR met with civil society organizations, including leaders of religious organizations, who exposed the violence and / or destruction that was focused on Christian temples during the social outbreak.
As part of its preliminary observations, the IACHR recommended that the state should guarantee freedom of worship and religion, and the expression of thought. The IACHR also advised that the government should adopt measures to combat and condemn speech that incites hatred and discrimination.
